Upstream has released 0.9.6, which includes several endianness issues. Can you please check whether the packages from deb-src http://zg.debian.zugschlus.de/zg/pool/main/mhash/ / Sorry, no powerpc binary packages at this time - I am trying to get the package built on some big endian machines.
