I had read that bug report and tried to follow it. I suppose that after
having tried so many changes in /etc/default/minidlna and /
or /etc/minidlna.conf I somehow got confused and did something wrong.

Thanks alot for pointing me to that bug report : I tried it again, just
adding
        USER="eddy"
to /etc/default/minidlna and declaring the appropriate directories
in /etc/minidlna.conf and everything works as expected.

My cache /var/cache/minidlna is owned by eddy:minidlna so that
everything works perfectly.

Thanks again for your work and in this case for your help because it is
obvious now that this was not a bug but my misunderstanding of the
config files.
