Hi Carsten, thank you for your answer.

I don't have an .icedove directory.

I do believe the real cause of this problem is explained in
https://bugs.debian.org/857029 (thunderbird: tries to migrate nonexistent
~/.icedove due to unintended meaning of "\ #" syntax).
