Package: mutter
Version: 3.22.2-1
Severity: normal

PROBLEM: No more "gnome"
WORKAROUND: Use "gnome in wayland"
IMPACT: testing (December 3rd-), unstable
ATTACHED: upgraded package list (excluding gcc and libreoffice ...)

SITUATION:

Upon starting PC today, I can not start Gnome (it was my default) from
GDM3. It is just black screen. (I still have linux console on
CTRL-ALT-F3. But C-A-F1 and C-A-F2 does not work... is this normal
these days?)

I just updated mutter a day before, so this is the most suspicious
package causing this problem in retrospective. (I followed testing)

My first reaction was to upgrade my system to unstable, ... which did
not solve my issue.

After reading somewhat unrelated bug report on GDM3:
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=844395#15
I rebooted and logged in to "gnome in wayland" from gdm3, voila! it works.

I rebooted and tried to login to "gnome" from gdm3, again black screen.

So something broke non-wayland standard gnome session.

According to my package update history, mutter is the only thing updated
which is related to starting desktop session.

It is strange I do not see people complained ... maybe people following
unstable may be using "gnome in wayland"...

Excuse me not being more explicit on the bug ...

Regards,

Osamu

Version: 3.22.2-2

I just uploaded a new version of mutter with the fix for that
bug. I was not aware of this bug so I forgot mention it in the
changelog.

Cheers,
