The actual error message for the eclipse-cdt FTBFS was snipped from the
log in the bug report, it is:

    [javac] 67. ERROR in
/tmp/eclipse-cdt-8.6.0/debian/.eclipse-build/org.eclipse.cdt.core/model/org/eclipse/cdt/core/settings/model/util/PatternNameMap.java
 (at line 90)
    [javac]     private class ValuesCollection extends
AbstractCollection<PathSettingsContainer> {
    [javac]                   ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
    [javac] Duplicate methods named spliterator with the parameters () and ()
are inherited from the types Collection<PathSettingsContainer> and
Iterable<PathSettingsContainer>

This looks quite similar #757536 in eclipse, and the solution is likely
the same (upgrade the Debian package to a non-ancient version that
supports Java 8).

       "Is there not promise of rain?" Ling Tan asked suddenly out
        of the darkness. There had been need of rain for many days.
       "Only a promise," Lao Er said.
