3.20.7 also works fine for me, leaving these possibilities:

and I've built Gtk enough times in the last couple of days that I would
have expected to see a failure in even a semi-reproducible test if there
was going to be one. So I think this is probably either something external
to Gtk that was fixed, or something different about your system.
