It actually works pretty well. I use both Estonian and Finnish here
and both of them are generated from Ispell. I agree that generating
from ispell is not ideal for languages that are more complex, like
Altaic or Ugric ones, though.

For that I agree and now is a good time to start migrating. FYI,
according to Harri Pitkänen, hunspell is already the default in Open
Office 2.0.2, which is scheduled for release in a few weeks. As a
user, you can help by filing wishlist bugs on all your other favorite
applications that currently use either aspell, gnomespell, ispell or
myspell, requesting that spellchecking be migrated to hunspell.
