close 780207 thanks Whilst I agree that reasonable attempts must be made to use existing hardware drives, and thus retry reads/writes as necessory, I do not believe it is mdadm package's responsibility to create or adjust underlying hardware policy of things that back the array. I also don't think this would be appropriate in mdadm upstream tarballs either. If this is still outstanding, I'd recommend to raise this on systemd mailing list to discuss if udev upstream would ship something like that, or establish where it's best to be done.
