Getting a new upstream version into jessie with such a large diff will be nearly impossible. But if you can cherry-pick the actual fixes (and nothing else that's just noise) and apply them on top of the jessie package (version it 0.8.0-1+deb8u1), this could go the jessie-pu road, see https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/pkgs.html#upload-stable Andreas
