There are many combinations possible. Generally, copying an "old" (but not too old!) binary on a "modern" system should work. E.g. using jessie's binary on stretch. And by "binary", I mean the command-line version (not the GTK version), which has no other dependency than libc. The command-line binaries are named unison-$VERSION (without the -gtk suffix).
