The ABI error which caused this original build failure appears to now have been changed to a warning originating in /usr/include/xapian/version.h
It warns that the application is being built with a different compiler than that which built the xapian library. In any case, this is not specifically a gcc5 bug, nor a synaptic bug, and it builds fine now with a ABI warning, even with libxapian being compiled using GCC 4.9.2.
