In general I think that old systems *SHOULD* actually be kept up to date and that it's good to have them migrated. AFAICS, LC_CHARMAP is not standardised (or at least I couldn't find where), so we shouldn't add it. BUT,... since this changes the (Debian) defaults, it should have - gotten a NEWS.Debian entry and/or - the migration been managed via e.g. debconf (and the user been interactively asked) Cheers, Chris
