There is a bug (726530) that mentions random segfaults in fvwm. I wonder if this one is related. It sure sounds much more like an fvwm bug than a gimp bug. Sure gimp might be good at triggering it, but I don't think it is correct at all to assign the bug to gimp. That is not likely to get a resolution to the problem in my opinion.
