Hum... So the build would build only the arch-specific packages, I get it now, and it makes sense. But how to fix the debian/rules file then? Should I, in the override_dh_python3 target, check if there's a $(CURDIR)/debian/subunit/usr/bin folder, and do nothing if it's not there? Or is there a way to have override_dh_python3 happen only when build-arch-indep is called?
