Hi, note that the observations of Lars are correct: you can't build this package as root because the tests are required to run as non-root. The buildds have no problem with this setup and I can build fine with dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot in fact I build all my releases with dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot. If you can still reproduce the problem feel free to reopen the bug with severity "normal".
