Patching the source will remove the file only from resulting binary packages. To address this bug, non-source files must be removed also from the source package. This can be solved by one of: * Convince upstream to routinely ship a tarball of only the *actual* source (i.e. the preferred form of the work for making modifications to it), and ensure that tarball has everything needed to build the binary package. * Re-pack to remove the non-source files from the pristine upstream tarball <URL:https://wiki.debian.org/BenFinney/software/repack>. Such a program would need to be maintained on an ongoing basis as upstream's source releases continue to change. A likely way to do this is to start by re-packing (in order to address this Debian bug), and continue to work with upstream to persuade them to omit the non-source files from their source release procedure, thereby solving the problem permanently in this package. -- \ “I think Western civilization is more enlightened precisely | `\ because we have learned how to ignore our religious leaders.” | _o__) —Bill Maher, 2003 | Ben Finney <b...@benfinney.id.au>
