When installing the package, one can see Emacs being triggered as root
and working for quite some time but no directory in
/usr/share/emacs24/site-lisp/ is eventually created. Thus, the

Greetings, and thanks for your report! I have an up to date sid system
with emacs24, and maxima-emacs installs all .elc files just fine. M-x
maxima et. al. work as expected. I think there may be something wrong
with your emacs setup, as the compile process invokes scripts belonging
to those packages. You may want to refile this against a different
package if so. In any case, if problems persist and you want to reopen
this, the severity should be normal, and you should supply shell script
transcripts of the package install/remove process and the resulting
directory contents.
