The fix from upstream changeset r25197 is included in the GDAL 1.10.x package currently in experimental. The transition from 1.9.0 to 1.10.1 should happen as soon as possible, see #712688. I'm not sure if we should apply the patch for 1.9.0 package. It's probably a good idea if this issue threatens the removal of GDAL from testing before the transition.
