MAT appears to sometimes delete my files:

  $ mat --check FILE.pdf

  $ mat FILE.pdf
  ('Unable to clean %s', 'FILE.pdf')

  $ ls FILE.pdf*
  ls: cannot access FILE.pdf*: No such file or directory
