Is this an error message you get, or are you stating that XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is
not set in the environment?

This is odd...

This is #714148 but it shouldn't have any impact.

Could you send a screen capture of this dialog? The message means that it did
find your configuration but it couldn't determine how to handle IMAP
mailboxes, which is very strange indeed.

If you don't mind, I'd like to see the contents of your
~/.gnome2/mail-notification/mailboxes.xml file too, with the usernames
obscured (and anything else you don't feel comfortable sharing).

That's the normal behaviour when the configuration can't be determined.
