this has been discussed with ftp-master before the package was
initially ACCEPTed; as this is such a sensitive matter I don't want to
dismiss the bug right away.

These can be removed if deemed necessary, but I'd rather leave the
files as in the specification.

These are parts that define the calling convention, dependent on
platform, which is certainly part of the interface.

I'm not entirely convinced of that -- in any case, the standards
committee is aware that we are shipping these files, and also all
other implementors are shipping the exact same files (okay, some have
replaced the copyright notice with their own, leaving the content
untouched).

Hence, I think this is not a problem.
