Have you rebooted your system after the upgrade? If you start gnome-terminal from xterm, do you get any output? Under which desktop environment do you run gnome-terminal? Do you get any errors in ~/.xsession-errors? -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
