That part was a bit too quick (on my way out), but I'm pretty certain the rm -f came from ssh-copy-id (I started with a strace -f, and PIDs confirm this). > Maybe mktemp failed in some other way. Did ~/.ssh exist before running > this command? mktemp won't create leading directories. IIRC (I don't have the machine or the logs handy), mktemp succeeded.
