OK. Did you try to use the LO dialogs instead of the KDE ones?
(see Tools->Options->General)?

I didn't ask this just for fun, please answer. Because here (though under
GNOME, need to install/check with KDE later at home) it works.

You mean that with the same document, the KDE open/save dialog opens
but when doing that with ctrl-s it crashes? Interesting, it must be
done differnet in the ctrl-s case...
