FWIW, we do have mechanisms in Debian to handle the current implementation properly. The problem was just noticed rather late (but fortunately before the release.) I don't know how hard it's making things for other packaging systems. You might want to emphasize the upgrading recompilation requirements in the docs if you decide to keep the current scheme, to avoid surprises.
