I agree with Josh's assessment. As I noted in 668239, different host keys for different ports on the same server are clearly documented in the OpenSSH man page. Hence, the assessment in the initial bugreport and hostkey.patch are clearly wrong. I tested dropping hostkey.patch and this makes paramiko work again with non-standard port settings.
Maybe the problem described in the original report is due to the behaviour mentioned in http://lwn.net/Articles/222649/? [See also https://bugzilla.mindrot.org/show_bug.cgi?id=910]. This fallback behaviour seems to be not present in paramiko and is not adressed by the current patch. So can we get a new version with the wrong patch reverted?
