Package: procps Version: 1:3.3.4 Severity: critical --- Please enter the report below this line. --- Yesterday (31 October 2012) Sid upgrades. As procps had a critical bug (which may indeed be related, dup of this one!) against it, I did not upgrade procps but upgraded everything else.
On reboot, had smoked system. In the "maintanence" root shell offered, I was able to vlm->vgmknodes and mount my filesystems. However, network, some usb functionality, many functionalities simple not there. Suspecting udev, trying to manually re-start got: sudo /etc/init.d/udev Signal 11 (SEGV) caught by ps (procps-ng version 3.3.4). ps:display.c:59: please report this bug [warn] udev does not support containers, not started ... (warning). With no way of reinstalling packagesexcept those still in the archive cache, or entering or looking at bugs, I installed the current version and rebooted and everything played. I assume an unflagged dependency allowed me to cause this problem. --- System information. --- Architecture: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae Debian Release: wheezy/sid 500 precise ppa.launchpad.net 100 experimental-snapshots qt-kde.debian.net --- Package information. --- Depends (Version) | Installed ==================================-+-================== libc6 (>= 2.11) | 2.13-36 libncurses5 (>= 5.5-5~) | 5.9-10 libncursesw5 (>= 5.6+20070908) | 5.9-10 libprocps0 (>= 1:3.3.2-1) | 1:3.3.4-1 libtinfo5 | 5.9-10 lsb-base (>= 3.0-10) | 4.1+Debian7 initscripts | 2.88dsf-32 Recommends (Version) | Installed =========================-+-=========== psmisc | 22.20-1 Package's Suggests field is empty.
