We did some work on googlecl yesterday that properly fixes this bug. It's checked into svn (r598 and r600); http://code.google.com/p/googlecl/source/list
BTW, if there's a way to list me as a maintainer (or just CC me automatically on googlecl bugs) I can be more proactive in helping keep googlecl happy with debian. (I'm the primary maintainer for googlecl).
