The postinst generates files in /dev using mknod; this does not help after a reboot. I've talked to the udev maintainer, and his stance is that a) mknod in postinst is against policy (at the very least, MAKEDEV should be used instead), and b) the kernel module should have a dev entry in /sys ("find /sys -name dev | grep nvidia" returns nothing on my system), or install an init script to create the device at every boot. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.13-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) --------------------------------------- Received: (at 335398-close) by bugs.debian.org; 25 Oct 2005 21:12:18 +0000 >From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 25 14:12:18 2005 Return-path: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Received: from katie by spohr.debian.org with local (Exim 3.36 1 (Debian)) id 1EUVwd-0001TD-00; Tue, 25 Oct 2005 14:02:55 -0700 From: Randall Donald <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Katie: $Revision: 1.56 $ Subject: Bug#335398: fixed in nvidia-kernel-common 20051025+1 Message-Id: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sender: Archive Administrator <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Tue, 25 Oct 2005 14:02:55 -0700 Delivered-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 (1.212-2003-09-23-exp) on spohr.debian.org X-Spam-Level: X-Spam-Status: No, hits=-6.0 required=4.0 tests=BAYES_00,HAS_BUG_NUMBER autolearn=no version=2.60-bugs.debian.org_2005_01_02 X-CrossAssassin-Score: 4 Source: nvidia-kernel-common Source-Version: 20051025+1 We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of nvidia-kernel-common, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive: nvidia-kernel-common_20051025+1.dsc to pool/contrib/n/nvidia-kernel-common/nvidia-kernel-common_20051025+1.dsc nvidia-kernel-common_20051025+1.tar.gz to pool/contrib/n/nvidia-kernel-common/nvidia-kernel-common_20051025+1.tar.gz nvidia-kernel-common_20051025+1_all.deb to pool/contrib/n/nvidia-kernel-common/nvidia-kernel-common_20051025+1_all.deb A summary of the changes between this version and the previous one is attached.
