Did that work, and do you agree that we can close the bug? On the other hand, we (the maintainer team) should collect all those "local misconfiguration bugs", and if some of them occur frequently, we should consider to specifically cater for them (like we (want to?) do with updmap.cfg in TEXMFMAIN, or did with VARTEXMF->TEXMFSYSVAR.
