Hash: SHA1
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 3.4.1.1-1
Severity: grave
File: /usr/bin/gnome-terminal
Justification: renders package unusable
Dear Maintainer,
After recent upgrades (in the last 3-4 weeks I think), when I click
on the gnome-terminal shortcut in the shortcut bar at the top of my
screen, or type 'gnome-terminal' at a shell prompt (in a shell
running in, for example, konsole or xterm) gnome-terminal starts
- - but there is no shell prompt inside it. Inspecting the table of
running processes, I cannot find any instance of a command shell
corresponding to the new gnome-terminal window.
Obvious workarounds like 'gnome-terminal -x bash' and 'gnome-terminal
- -x /bin/bash' do not work either. There is no output at all in the
gnome-terminal window nor at the prompt where I type the command.
'gnome-terminal -x /nonexistent/file' gets the expected error bar at
the top of the new terminal offering buttons to edit the profile or
relaunch, so it's apparently getting as far as at least *finding*
the file for the shell it's supposed to execute.
It's clear to me that most people are not seeing this bug; if
they were, there would be a furor over it by now because the
package in the presence of this bug is completely unusable
('grave'). I am experiencing it as a 'grave' bug, but since
it apparently affects relatively few users, maybe it should be
'normal' instead.
