Package: virtualbox-ose-dkms
Version: 3.2.10-dfsg-1
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: renders package unusable

Virtualbox-ose fails to start a virtualmachine due to lack of
virtualbox kernel module.
"modprobe vboxdrv" returns "FATAL: module not found".
Package virtualbox-ose-dkms was installed but no module was built
during the installation. However the package didn't report an error
upon installation.
I installed virtualbox-ose-source and re-installed
virtualbox-ose-dkms. Now virtualbox-ose-dkms really built a module for
the kernel and installed it.
Virtualbox-ose runs virtual machiens fine. The problem is fixed.

I suggest to make virtualbox-ose-source a dependency of
virtualbox-ose-dkms (which is a dependency of virtualbox-ose, right?).
That should fix the problem.

Best regards - unfa.

The reason for this may be that some packages needed for the build were not
available, like the correct kernel headers. It's almost impossible to tell what
exactly was at fault here. However, it surely is not virtualbox-ose-dkms'
fault.

Why? Just because you installed it does not mean it was part of the solution.
In fact the solution was to re-install virtualbox-ose-dkms. This package
contains the same sources as virtualbox-ose-source with the only difference
being that virtualbox-ose-dkms works with dkms, while virtualbox-ose-source is
made for module-assistant.

No, that won't change anything.
