I actually don't believe that you installed *all* upgradable packages (or you had a interesting mix before so that -common etc are not needed to be upgaded. So it doesn't even make sense to try and debootstrap a snapshot and try a upgrade (and fwiw, 3.4.6-2 is in testing since 2 weeks...) See e.g. http://bugs.debian.org/470397. It might just also be that writer2latex doesn't work with gcj.
