--- Begin Message --- The -Werror issue was fixed in the underlying code, not by adding anything to the CFLAGS. To verify, I addded the following to the CFLAGS:

  -Werror=unused-but-set-variable -Werror=unused-but-set-parameter

I compiled the library with gcc-4.6, and was unable to reproduce the build failure. Therefore, I believe this problem has been solved.
