A known 'feature' - the code's been like that for about ten years now and I've never heard of any 'idiot' being caught out by it. Maybe someone'll submit a suitable patch to improve the behaviour some day, but it gets no priority if it's taken ten years for anyone to notice *and* care enough to ask!
