I noticed this bug on the squeeze RC bugs list. It looks like the above symptom was fixed in unattended-upgrades, and on the asterisk side it was decided that changing the conffile back would create more problems than it solves. So this seems to be fixed, all in all. Reassigning to unattended-upgrades to help debbugs understand that.
