Package: ntop Version: 3:4.0.3+dfsg1-3+b1 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system
Installing this package will eventually crash my system and renders it unbootable. (FWIW, iftop works fine.) I appear to be using e1000 for my network driver and my computer is a Dell Optiplex GX280. Booting a different kernel 2.6.32-3-486 does not cause a crash but has other problems so it is an untenable workaround. (And, in fact, may not even be bringing up ntop.) In order to compose this message, I have unstalled ntop. -- System Information: Debian Release: 6.0 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'stable'), (250, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-486 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Version: 2.6.32+29 Versions of packages ntop depends on: ii adduser 3.102 Add and remove users and groups ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.27 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.11.2-6+squeeze1 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libgdbm3 1.8.3-3 GNU dbm database routines (runtime ii libgeoip1 1.4.7+dfsg-2 non-DNS IP-to-country resolver lib ii libpcap0.8 1.1.1-2 system interface for user-level pa ii libpython2.6 2.6.6-3 Shared Python runtime library (ver pn librrd4 <none> (no description available) pn libssl1.0.0 <none> (no description available) ii net-tools 1.60-17 The NET-3 networking toolkit pn ntop-data <none> (no description available) ii passwd 1:4.1.1-6 change and administer password and pn python-mako <none> (no description available) ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.3.dfsg-5 compression library - runtime ntop recommends no packages.
