You are right.

This change must be done upstream. I think that I will talk about
integrating most of changes which are in Debian, and some improvements
like this one when I shall meet the development team during the next
general assembly of WimsEdu (July, the 2nd). Until now, they have been
reluctant to accept deep changes, but their feelings are changing
slowly.
