Updateing from 1.2.2-5 gives the following in syslog:
Mar 30 00:21:51 samweis rpc.statd[1250]: Caught signal 15, un-registering and
exiting
Mar 30 00:21:52 samweis rpc.statd[7623]: Version 1.2.3 starting
Mar 30 00:21:52 samweis sm-notify[7624]: Version 1.2.3 starting
Mar 30 00:21:52 samweis sm-notify[7624]: Already notifying clients; Exiting!
Mar 30 00:21:52 samweis rpc.statd[7623]: Failed to read /var/lib/nfs/state:
Success
Mar 30 00:21:52 samweis rpc.statd[7623]: Initializing NSM state
Mar 30 00:21:52 samweis rpc.statd[7623]: failed to create RPC listeners, exiting
This is reproducible with 2.6.3(7|8) on i386 and ppc.
I don't kow how to debug this but:
# service nfs-common restart
gives
Stopping NFS common utilities: idmapd statd.
Starting NFS common utilities: statd failed!
At rebooting mount.nfs complains about a wrong -p parameter....
Downgrading to 1.2.2-5 works perfect.
