Hi Michael! As you may know by now, there is a KDE 4 version of KBibTex being currently done [0], although it seems that it still needs some time to catch-up with KDE 3's version functionality [1].
May I suggest you to try to package this version, at least for experimetal so users can start testing it if they will? I would also like to offer myself to help you if you need help on this.
