Sure, that's what I expected, I only tried the nm-applet from
experimental as a last measure test, and was surprised it did fix the
issue.

If that helps, I have a non standard eth0 setting, namely in the IP4
settings:

  * automatic (DHCP) addresses only
  * DNS server is forced to 127.0.0.1 (I have my own cache)
  * search is set to "corp madism.org"

I've not changed anything from the defaults for the rest.

Despite similar chages on my wifi interfaces and an openvpn connection,
I've not tweaked NM in any kind of fashion wrt the default install.
