We don't actually care about the kernel in calibre, so a better hack would be to just pin "isfreebsd" to False and "islinux" to True in the Debian package. Would you have an idea to tell apart Linux userspace from a "real" BSD userspace? Unfortunately I don't have any BSD experience.
