I don't think this procedure makes sense to test lenny→squeeze upgrades. It might be a testbed for apt to improve squeeze→wheezy, but for lenny→squeeze we should rely on lenny's apt, and fix packages to work well with that. So I don't think there's a serious bug in apt here, individual package upgrade issues should be fixed in those specific packages at this point. Cheers, Julien
