Actually, GeForce FX > 5500 is supported as far as 173.14.xx.
Hmm. I was sure I tried the 173 driver before the 71 driver was in the archive, and it said this graphics card was supported by the 71 series driver. When I didn't find the 71xx driver, I downgraded the xorg packages and waited. When the 71xx driver became available recently, I tried installing it and got the undefined symbol error. I checked the BTS, found the bug already reported, and subscribed to it. However, trying again with the 173 driver, it does work, and the lists on the nVidia website give the 173 driver as the proper one for this card, so this machine is set for now. I do have one machine with a Vanta (NV6) card that does require the 71xx driver, but it isn't important for that machine to have accelerated graphics, so the free nv driver is fine. It's possible that I am remembering a failed upgrade to the 173 driver on this machine, though I really don't think so; I don't think I have tried to move away from the nv driver on this machine except just now as a result of this thread. Thanks to all the Debian nVidia maintainers! Your work is truly appreciated. ...Marvin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble?
