I tried to reproduce this with gcompris version 9.3-1 in a freshly installed kvm machine, and gcompris was able to start and run games just fine. I tested the first mathematical game in the list (upper left corner) showing pairs of dices.
Any idea how to reproduce your problem? Can you try to run 'valgrind gcompris' to try to get a better idea why it crashes? The strace output did not tell me much. As I am unable to reproduce the problem, I suspect the severity should be lowered from grave to important.
