Package: lighttpd
Version: 1.4.26-3
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

lighttpd silently fails to start. Using invoke-rc.d gives the following message:

# invoke-rc.d lighttpd start
Starting web server: lighttpd/usr/sbin/lighttpd: Symbol `FamErrlist' has
different size in shared object, consider re-linking
..
#

However, ps -e|grep lighttpd turns up empty. Using invoke-rc.d to check the
status of the daemon gives the following message:

# invoke-rc.d lighttpd status
lighttpd is not running ... failed!
invoke-rc.d: initscript lighttpd, action "status" failed.
#

Starting lighhttpd by hand also fails silently:

# /usr/sbin/lighttpd -f /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf
/usr/sbin/lighttpd: Symbol `FamErrlist' has different size in shared object,
consider re-linking
# ps -e|grep lighttpd
#

I am at something of a loss to diagnose or debug this, since the "FamErrlist"
message is apparently harmless and no other information is forthcoming.

Changes to the configuration file consist of changing the document root and
changing the bound port, both of which I feel should have no impact on the
daemon starting.

Thoughts? Is there something obvious that I'm missing, or is something actually
wrong here?
