norbert, thank you for your quick reply. in order to use hostnames, mysql server requires capability to RESOLVE names. it does not require a working NAME SERVER running on the same host, but just that one of the name servers listed on /etc/resolv.conf responds or corresponding hostname entries exist in /etc/hosts file. -- juha -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-rc-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe".
