Package: python-tables
Version: 2.1.2-3+b1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Since the recent upgrade of python-numpy in sid (1:1.3.0-3+b1 -> 1:1.4.1-2),
python-tables is not working anymore:

Python 2.6.5+ (release26-maint, Jul  6 2010, 14:48:45)
[GCC 4.4.4] on linux2
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import tables
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
  File "/usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/tables/__init__.py", line 56, in
<module>
    from tables.utilsExtension import getPyTablesVersion, getHDF5Version
  File "definitions.pxd", line 138, in tables.utilsExtension
ValueError: numpy.dtype does not appear to be the correct type object

This package needs to be compiled against the new version of python-numpy. A
simple dpkg-buildpackage on the actual pytables source package produces an
usable version of python-tables.

I believe there is a deeper issue with the way Debian is dealing with numpy
API changes. This changes should have been dealt within packages
dependencies.

Antoine
