Package: update-notifier Version: 0.99.3debian4 Severity: serious My automatic upgrade testing of Gnome from Lenny to Squeeze started failing recently, with the following error:
Preparing to replace update-notifier 0.70.7.debian-5 (using .../update-notifier_0.99.3debian4_i386.deb) ... Unpacking replacement update-notifier ... dpkg: error processing /var/cache/apt/archives/update-notifier_0.99.3debian4_i386.deb (--unpack): trying to overwrite '/etc/xdg/autostart/update-notifier.desktop', which is also in package update-notifier-common 0.70.7.debian-5 dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe) Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/update-notifier_0.99.3debian4_i386.deb E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) A package failed to install. Trying to recover: The complete installation and upgrade log is available from <URL: http://people.skolelinux.org/~pere/debian-upgrade-testing//test-20100727-lenny-squeeze-gnome-aptitude.txt >. This seem to be caused by a missing conflicts/replaces statement for the update-notifier package. See also #590604 for another issue caused by this error.
