Thanks --- I noticed the same failure at my cran2deb autobuild of all of CRAN with Rmpi and npRmpi (which embeds Rmpi). I presume something changed in Open MPI amd I now have to prefix the 'R CMD INSTALL ....' command with orterun to provide a MPI context. I'll try that in my pbuilder first.
